Tasty expansion by international baking group British Bakels at Bicester

British Bakels, www.britishbakels.co.uk, a private company with nearly 40 operations on 5 continents, has purchased 80,000 sq ft at Link 9 in Bicester www.link9.co.uk. The building is to be completed by October 2018 by developer Albion Land www.albionland.co.uk, on their 30 acre Link 9 scheme.

Bakels was first registered in Amsterdam in 1904 by 2 brothers. This new development at Link 9 will allow the bakery specialist to expand its existing facilities in Bicester.  The company currently employ over 200 people at their Bicester site and have ambitious growth plans.  Bakels website confirms “Bakels owes its success not just to investment in facilities and innovation but also in our people, whose dedication to our company and the customers we serve has been a feature of Bakels for over 100 years. Investment is increasingly being applied to training people, young and old, in essential bakery skills.”

Albion Land’s confidence in Link 9 is also demonstrated in the speculative development of 7 units totalling 146,000 sq ft (units available from 13,000 sq ft to 32,000 sq ft). This development is to be known as Network@Link9 and units will be available in late summer 2018.  Albion Land can also provide a further 300,000 sq ft of industrial/distribution accommodation on the remaining site and will develop units to suit their particular requirements.

Bicester, well known for Bicester Village, is subject to substantial commercial and residential development with its population looking to double by 2031.

Chris White, Managing Director of White Commercial, confirmed “The London to Birmingham M40 corridor continues to see expansion and investment by the corporate sector with a number of major companies taking space in the region, including Amazon, The Entertainer, Charge Automotive, Hello Fresh, Kärcher, DCS and now British Bakels.
