British Bakels is the first unit to rise at brand new scheme in Bicester

30 November 2017

The construction of British Bakels’ new distribution facility has started at Albion Land’s Link 9 Development in Bicester Albion Land is also developing 7 further new units on the site totalling 146,000 sq ft (units available from 13,000 sq ft to 32,000 sq ft). This speculative development is named Network@Link9. Units will be available in late summer 2018. White Commercial Surveyors are pleased to be marketing this development alongside Colliers and VSL & Partners.

British Bakels, the bakery specialists with nearly 40 operations on five continents, has pre-purchased the first 80,000 sq ft of industrial/warehousing accommodation at Link 9. The building is to be completed by October 2018 on Albion’s 30 acre site which is capable of accommodating 500,000 sq ft of accommodation. Albion’s site can house a further 300,000 sq ft of industrial/distribution accommodation and will develop units to suit the requirements of interested companies.

Bicester, well known for Bicester Village, is subject to substantial commercial and residential development with its population looking to double by 2031. British Bakels, first registered in Amsterdam in 1904, will expand its existing facilities in Bicester which currently employs over 200 people at their Bicester site, having ambitious growth plans.

Simon Parsons, Director at Albion Land, comments: “We are delighted that construction works is now underway, occupier interest in the development is encouraging on both a freehold and leasehold basis and we will shortly be announcing a number of further transactions.”

Chris White, Managing Director at White Commercial, comments: “This is going to be another successful development by Albion Land, following their recent sale of a similar development in Brackley circa 140,000 sq ft. We already have significant interest from occupiers in the units here on new leases and also wanting to purchase their units. There is a real shortage of new units of this size in the Oxfordshire region which is rapidly expanding both residentially and commercially – and is due to significant Investment by the Government sitting in the Oxford Cambridge Growth Corridor.”
